Description

Showing a little excerpt of my work during my internship at the Swiss National Park where I explain the ecological role of the saprophytic and parasitic fungus Armillaria ostoyae (Dunkler Hallimasch or Gemeriner Hallimasch in German), also known as the Humongous Fungus. It's colloquial name comes from the fact that the biggest known individual in Oregon is about the size of 9km2. The individual of the Swiss National Park is just about 500x800m2 in size but still thought to be 2000 or even 7000 years old. Little is known about Armillaria ostoyae, since it lives subterranean and is only visible through it's fruits that I illustrated here or when you dig it up from areas where the trees he attacks show signs of weakness. So it's very interesting to illustrate something that usually isn't visible!

I drew this fruit in 2-3h in photoshop by using a brush mimicking a pencil. I'd love to hear some feedback from you which version you'd prefer to see in a museum exhibition, since I'm still looking for a style the majority of people would prefer to see. So don't be afraid to post your opinion! :D

So, I know most people will say they like the linear+colour+shadows one, however you specifically asked for museum exhibition version and I feel that the linear+colour one is better for that as the shape is described enough by the accurate lineart, so having the base colours is better for those who wish to find these themselves in other lighting conditions :)

Plus the old museum sketches always stayed quite flat for that same reason :)

Great skill shown here friend! Nicely done!
