Sangheili women by Dragunalb Sangheili women by Dragunalb
No, this is not an insult towards other fans but merely a parody of all the variations of illustrations of cliché female Sangheili I saw over the years, pointing at some things I consider a little odd, since I try to stick to the canon really closely. If you happen to see some similarities to the way you draw them, be assured that I'm in no way judging you and your ideas. It's just supposed to make a little fun of Halo/Sangheili fans and start a bit of a discussion. Me included ;)
Also if you are interested in Sangheili, you're welcome to discuss it in the comments =)

Since we never really saw a female Sangheili in the games (maybe we will in Halo5?), this is just how I've put together bits of information and my own visualization of how females look like, so do not take this as the ultimate law for drawing Sangheili. And yep, I tried to give the cliché female a duckface in this quick drawing ;)
Inspired by the endless discussions with :icongluebandit:

You can check out the male warrior version here Sangheili warriors by Dragunalb

Things I consider weird in such illustrations:

- No athletic/toned bodies, even though they are described as being very similar to the males and also trained in combat, even though they rarely actively participate in war. Illustrations of warrior females with such fragile bodies make it look even more unrealistic.

- Hair. This probably started because of Han Halo Legends and rose in popularity very quickly and got used a lot, since it seems to make them look more feminine. For Sangheili having saurian features, it's a very odd thing to give them hair, especially since the males have none at all.

- Pale skin. Knowing Sangheilos got three suns, is at the inner most border or the habitable zone of it's solar system and is generally made of dry desert zones, having low pigmentation is probably a very bad thing, since it would lead to sunburns every day. There sure are regions with slightly brighter skin tones like Mdama but really bright or even white skin is very unlikely.

- Blue eyes. Same reason as above. It's not a good thing to have in regions with intense sun radiation and even on Earth, you generally find blue eyes only in colder climates. Blue eyes as a recessive trait may exist in Sangheili but it's probably very rare whilst brown, yellow and orange are common and green being less common. Also there's the confusion with Jul 'Mdama who is described to have yellow eyes in one book and then grey/blue(?) in another I think.

- Excessive sexual features. I always considered it weird to give saurian Aliens like Sangheili breasts. It gets even weirder, when said features like breats and buttcheeks are blown completely out of proportion, turning them into some kind of sex doll. Giving them feminine curves and broader hips is totally fine but many overdo it very much and turn them into this bimbo fishing for faves.

- Skimpy outfits. It's great to go wild with Sangheili fashion and it is plausible that often those outfits reveal a lot of skin, due to the hot climate. Yet too often, the outfits seem to be too overloaded to be functional (like why does a female working on the field have to wear the most beautiful skirts and jewelry?) or totally sexualized in that way that it's basically just lingerie or a bondage costume they wear. This seems even more weird when the females are supposed to be warriors, yet their armor is that typical fantasy cliché sexy lingerie armor that barely covers anything that's supposed to be protected. Putting weird ornamentation on that armor doesn't makes it better when you're supposed to be agile in battle. Showing skin is fine and more pompous outfits, jewelry and even tattoos and makeup are plausible too when the character is from a wealthy family but as with everything in life, you need to know when too much is too much.

- Warrior swordmaster something. This is a tricky one. We know Sangheili are patriarchal, even though females still get treated with respect, especially when it comes to managing the blood lines. From Thursday War we know that most females stay in the keep and care for busyness and the kids whilst men go to war. Yes, there exist females that fight in wars and some are even swordmasters but that's more of a rare thing and extremely rare when it comes to female swordmasters. Yet every female OC seems to be that warrior princess trying to put up against the patriarchal system by wielding double swords and whatnot, yet in the end they search for true love, need to be saved, while about everything and yadda. It gets boring and just because females generally stay at home, that doesn't means they can't make for interesting characters or are weak and not respected. On the contrary! Females are respected by males, get trained for combat and even though they remain polite, they will totally wreck your shit and tear a male to shreds with their bare claws, if he dares to threaten their families. Those ladies are pretty damn capable of defending themselves if they have to and got a lot of authority. I say stick more to the realistic image of a female Sangheili and you will still have a potentially badass character. Keep the warrior females rare but if you do, then be consistent and don't make them this damsel in distress searching for true love, even though she wields two swords at the same time. Normal females at home can fight with swords and blades too ;)

So I hope you had fun with this one. And remember that ultimately you're still free to draw whatever you want. These are just advices from me when it comes to more realistic illustrations of females and pull a bit of fun on us fans. I'll see how the feedback on this one will be and maybe I'll then do similar ones for other Covenant species and the males =)

Female Sangheili have never been shown in the games but according to the books, the looks are accurate. It also seems to be accurate according to the book covers featuring a female Sangheili

True. I mean, I kinda like how people think female Sangheili would look like (though not in this picture cuz it's way too exaggerated) but if I'm gonna draw one, I wanna make it as accurate as possible.

Well I got nothing about individual ideas and designs but I don't like if they get humanized and sexualized to no end whilst giving no shits about what the canon and logic says. If you want to draw a warrior species female, make it look like a warrior. Don't draw a flamboyant bimbo with big tits.

Whilst I do admit that I have to chuckle at breasted Sangheili here and there for their obvious tries to please horny teens, I actually don't really have something against it, if it's just done for shits and giggles. It's only when they sell those idealized sexbombs as canonical accurate that things get annoying, since it misinforms people that just don't know better and believe those images to be canon, therefor spreading it themselves in the end.

I  just got into this fandom and sheesh I seen some weird fanart (not hating on anyone here) that confuses me and I just started reading "Glasslands". But thank you for this information and educating me a bit on female sangheilis. Have a good day(night).

Well it's only been in the recent years that the weird fanart grew a lot in the fandom, whilst the better stuff kinda shrinked down, which is really sad, since there was a lot of very good stuff you could find. You can kinda evade the weird stuff though for now and there's still a good portion of devoted fans, so it's not as bad as in other fandoms where everything became a mush of sex and freakshow.
Glasslands and the two nooks that follow it are very good to learn about Sangheili. My description here is just a quick summary on what to do and not do in order to create a canonical Sangheili female. Well I'm glad I was able to help you out =)

The funny thing is that those who draw female Sangheili in an inaccurate way often do know what they actually are supposed to look like but still keep on drawing them their way what I guess is supposed to attract the horndogs in the fandom that look for alien titties and asses, instead on attracting people with quality drawings. Or they aren't skilled enough to give their female Sangheili OC enough of character, just say fuck it then and slap hair or any other ridiculous outfits on them and call it a day by explaining that they're half human and therefor have hair. But god forbid you point out that their drawings are an inaccurate representation of female Sangheili. Then you're mostly called a hater, blocked and chased after while knights that attack you for trying to take away their precious alien titties.

Glad that at least one artist is getting this right. xP
The oversized breasts don't even make sense- Elites are reptiles, as I recall- Not mammals.

As for the image, on the right, a very well done design. She looks classy.

On the left... I think you made an excellent portrayal of what was intended. xD
The sad part is, it's not even exaggerated, as satire.

Haha, thanks for the compliment! And yes, some stuff like huge breasts and hair do not make send on reptilian aliens such as the Sangheili. I try to counter the trend a bit. I'm glad you like my more realistic version of a female Sangheili ^^

The "inaccurate" version I drew is actually pretty tame compared to some depictions of female Sangheili I saw. I'd not recommend you to look it up, but there's some really bad stuff out there.

I was really happy about hearing a female Sangheili in Halo5 but sadly since we never actually got to see her, fans will most likely still draw those really weird sex dolls. But hey, at least it gives me something to laugh about when I discuss those with my friends in our Skype chats ;)

How do we know we weren't fighting females all along? In halo ce I noticed some with a skinnier waist then others!

Then again these might just be the hallucinations of an aging spartan and his malfunctioning AI.

I think that female sangheili are fierce warriors like the males, except they're a bit more agile. Like my oc Amielia she's half human though so that explains... She's also arbiter's daughter (non-canon of course)
Here's a picture, and yeah, that's chief in the background.

I love how now that we even got a cover featuring how a female Sangheili looks like (asides from all the descriptions in books), there's still a ton of shitty looking boobs on legs featuring anime hair and duckface lips.
